Paste code, logs and error output, then share one link
Chat apps mangle long pastes: they wrap lines, convert quotes and cut off stack traces. A pad keeps the text exactly as you pasted it, however long, and gives you a short link to send instead.
How to do it
- Open a pad and paste the code, log or config. Pads are plain text, so nothing gets auto-corrected.
- Turn on line numbers from the settings menu so you can say "look at line 42" instead of describing where to look.
- Send the link. The other person can edit in place, which is handy for walking through a fix together.
Why a pad works well here
- Very long pastes are fine and the full text is kept, so a complete log file is no problem.
- Several people can edit at once, so a reviewer can add a note right next to the line in question.
- Version history keeps every change, so you can always get back to the original paste.
- Export to plain text puts the result back on your clipboard or disk with no extra markup.
Tips
- Strip secrets before you paste. Anyone who has the link can read the pad, and tokens or passwords do not belong in it.
- Use a pad name that describes the problem, for example api-timeout-trace, so it is easy to find in your chat history later.
